Charcoal takes the volume of the double pleat and makes it read as tailoring rather than as fashion. High rise, buckled wrap waistband, full thigh tapering clean to the hem. This is the one to wear with a dark knit and a loafer when the room is smarter than you expected.

The Gurkha regiments' service trouser
The buckled wrap waistband comes from the trousers worn by Gurkha soldiers, cut to hold a high rise in place through a long day without a belt. Tailors later took the design into civilian wardrobes, and it has never quite left. Ours keeps the two side buckles and the deep double pleats that give the thigh its room, and tapers the leg so it reads as tailoring rather than uniform.
